to gather string is a collective of young string players who produce, arrange, record, and perform — equal parts collaboration and craft.

Emerging as a new voice in the scene, they sought a visual identity as refined and intentional as their sound — one that evokes strings without being overt, breaking from the aesthetics of the traditional quartet to embrace the ethos of a band, the artistry of crafting sound, and a sharp sense of taste.

An exploration of graphic language where the hand becomes more than a body part — it becomes a stand-in for presence, action, and sound. For musicians, the hand is a shared tool across instruments, a neutral symbol that doesn’t belong to any one practice but gestures toward all of them.

“To gather string” means to collect bits of information or ideas, often before knowing exactly what they are for.

The name reflects the band’s process and spirit: intuitive, collaborative, always in motion. Less about presenting something finished, more about assembling fragments into something alive.

The dancing fingers

This project began with the idea of representing the number 4 through movement and form.

From the beginning, the goal was to avoid the visual language so often attached to classical ensembles. The brief called for something that could carry meaning without relying on the familiar.

So it evolved into the shape of a hand, one that echoes both the curved posture of string playing and the gesture of collecting — gathering ideas. The 4 dancing fingers represent the 4 strings on each instrument and the core quartet, supported by the thumb behind, a nod to the collaborator who joins when the piece calls for it.
